We are a broad mix of people of all ages and from all walks of life. All with different reasons for being a member.
Our meetings are usually held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month, September to May, unless Bank Holidays intervene. Check our dates for the season on our Meeting Dates page.
We meet at Karters Cafe, 20 Church Street, Lutterworth LE17 4AW. We start at approximately 7.30 pm; do plan to arrive early if at all possible and be personally shown around. Finishing time is 9.30 pm.
Lutterworth Speakers Club is part of the national Association of Speakers Clubs (ASC) and one of a group of clubs in The South East Midlands area.
In November 2018, two members of the club won the Area Speech Evaluation competition and also the Area Topics competition – is there no stopping Lutterworth?
In October 2018, Lutterworth Speakers Club participated in and won (yet again!) the team speaking Chatterbox Competition – what an outstanding team!
In September and October 2018 Lutterworth Speakers Club members were pleased to attend for the second year running, the Sir Frank Whittle Studio School, to provide input to Year 10 and Year 12 students.
At the end of April 2018, we lost one of our members, Steve Wagstaff. The following comments from fellow members of the club, sum up the impact Steve made upon all of us, warm memories of Steve – he’ll be sorely missed:
“Steve was a super member of Lutterworth Speakers, always willing to participate and his presence and his humour will be sorely missed.” Allan Heggs
“He will remain in my memory for his loveable cheerful persona – almost “Dickensian” in character!! The memory of his character of the Dick Turpin, highway man in our presentation of Coach ‘n’ Horse in the “Chatterbox Challenge” last year where we were made to ‘deliver’ – Steve certainly did with passion!! – may he rest in peace.” Edward Taylor
“I wanted to tell him what a great writer he was, his last speech was so beautifully written. Feels like such a great loss despite only knowing him a short time. I feel so for his family. I’m going to miss him and I’m so grateful I had the chance to know him.” Emma Thompson
“Steve was a very good speaker, and from the start he threw himself into the life of the club. He was not afraid to speak his mind but he was a warm and compassionate man, and of course had a terrific sense of humour.” Maggie Barlow
“Steve made an impact on our meetings right from the very first time he went to the lectern, his sense of humour and the ability to put a speech together on the most unlikely subject was a joy.” Margaret Baldwin
“I remember Steve’s first speech just as if it were delivered yesterday. The title was ‘Two Little Boys’ and was the tale of his very young life on Malta, with his parents. Steve had us all in stitches, he could convey just the right emotions to an audience. I’ll miss him greatly.” Allan Rimmer
In September and October 2017 we helped Year 10 and Year 12 students, at the Sir Frank Whittle Studio School, appreciate the basic rules of public speaking and got the chance to hear very many of them give first class presentations! Well done to them all!
